Fri 9th April: Kathryn Ferguson for Katie Eary

"The Business of Fashion" has announced its Top 10 fashion films of the season, so I have got in touch with one of the shortlisted directors to find out more about her entry.  Kathryn Ferguson directs films in addition to also curating the fashion film program for the Birds Eye View Festival at the ICA.  I think this makes her a bit of an authority and main player in this revolutionary angle of the industry.  Infact its her 2nd year making it into the BOF listings.
This year her clip for Katie Eary was picked ..........

"The commission came through Jaime Perlman (Director of Test magazine). She suggested Katie as a designer to work with for the A/W 10 issue of Test. As Robbie Spencer is Katie's stylist we worked with him on choosing the model. He was away at NY fashion week at the time of the shoot so his assistant Elizabeth styled the video.

The whole idea of video was that it would mostly be shot in the Conservatory in the Barbican and then a bit in the studio in the evening. However we had a fairly disastrous day as our model didn't show up so we had to scrap most of that idea and dash to a studio. Luckily we had the amazing
David White doing the set design who really saved the day with his incredible studio sets. Katie's collection had a kind of space age jungle feel to it so I tried to emulate this in the video. If the Barbican had worked out as planned this would have been much more obvious in the final piece. "

Above are some stills from a behind the scenes film made by Katherine Hyland and below are screen grabs from the actual film which you can see over on the BOF site if you click here...

Having just worked on the third installment of the Birds Eye View Film Festival, Kathryn is now working on her first music promo for Japanese psych band Bo Ningen.............all the while she is also doing a masters in experimental film on the Communication, Art & Design MA at the Royal College of Art.    Just incase anyone isn't already familiar with her work she was the mastermind behind the Gaga exclusive for Dazed Digital that featured my pyramid headpiece .........and the beautiful film for Richard Nicoll last season...............check out her website for more.
