Sat 13th Nov: Kenzo "Fashion in Motion" at The V&A

Last evening Emily and I headed to the V&A for the latest "Fashion in Motion" exercise which focused on Kenzo and the 40th anniversary for the brand. The show was a culmination of the most recent S/S 2011 collection by the label's new creative director (Italian) Anotonio Marras and styled to replicate the archive of founder (Japanese) Kenzo Takada. The Paris house that fuses the influences of these two disparate geographical culture clashes shared its Sardinian / Japanese fusion with the public in London for this free day of fashion. Four staggered slots of the presentation meant that many visitors could participate and enjoy the spectacle of a full length catwalk presentation in the picturesque Raphael Gallery. I can't think of a more fitting vision to take residency in the halls of the museum's monumental collection of multicultural history than Kenzo's mismatch world textiles of patchwork colours and textures. The models tottered down the runway to the sounds of Bjork's wave song sampled into the soundtrack by Michael Gaubert to echo the Hokusai wave prints in the Kimono block print patterns. The new breed Eastern style wooden platform shoes gave added height to the statuesque bound headdress silhouette which tied together each look one after another. My favourite was the opening section with pop flouro colours as seen here in a snap of the shoes I wanted to run away with............. along with the colour blocking makeup to match the panelled pumps. Luckily we got back stage to have a close look and appreciate at first hand the layered sheers and burkram volumnious petticoats........

Fri 12th Nov: Holly and Craig's Private Orders

What some people may not know is that Craig is of Scot dissent. Although raised an East Anglian Boy, his routes are actually celtic and testament to that is his killer Scottish accent which puts me in stitches. The voice comes out when he's on the phone to Holly who Craig has bonded with over the last few seasons of sharing New Gen experiences. For the second time, the two have teamed up for their private orders event which is a fun affair and full of tantilisiang ware. I had to dash in and out so that I didn't find myself writing out any regrettable cheques - because basically I wanted everything..........and would have the loved to make the most of the opportunity to invest in these seminal pieces from future fashion established talent.......... this is always the time to get in whilst the early iconic pieces are available........

Thurs 11th Nov: "Florist" at SHOWstudio SHOP

"Hello Flowerhead" is the name of Hillman Studio's sculpture specifically made for SHOWstudio and the new "Florist" exhibition. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of SHOWstudio, the latest theme to take over the SHOP is literally a floral tribute with commissioned pieces from some of their contributors of the last decade. To open the season last evening was an initial selection that will be added to by more artists over the next few weeks so that the floral project literally grows.
The brief to dig out existing classic works from archives or devise a compeletly new work to complement the "say it with flowers" calling card was interpreted in a sculpture by Hillman Studio. The bust is an interpretation and recreation of a costume originally made for an Italian Vogue couture shoot with Tim Walker. Silk flowers and starched silk were used to create the ruffle headpiece which was inspired by a Lladro porcelain ornament depicting a kissing couple decorated in flowers. This delicate creation sits alongside an iconic Guy Bourdin print, a Nick Knight film and a giant Michael Howells Christian Dior Couture catwalk flower. Smaller pieces seen here include a Solve Sundsbo print, Jeffry Mitchell "O" Pickle Jar, Ed Griffiths Orchid, Giles Deacon Flower Bomb, Martine Sitbon Neon Poppy. Further additions will come from a series of live events in the studio such as Bishi, Mary Katrantzou and Stephen Jones joining the team to create something under the spot light. Here is a former live session artist Millie Brown and photographer / director Jez Tozer. Keep up to date with all the future florals to unfold here.

Weds 10th Nov: Rosy Nicholas

Check out Rosy's gold bolero that she made on commission for Skin after the original pieces she contributed to the Sunshowers collection (and here she is herself snapped by The Sartorialist at LFW - a 2nd encounter with Scott Schuman no less!) :

Weds 10th Nov: Quentin Jones

Here is my other post originally for FASHION 156 guest blogging the other week.........an interview with Quentin Jones who is now featured in the Dec issue of Vogue as a rising star...... get your telescope out and track the course of this comet.......

"BOF has just unveiled its Top Ten Fashion Films of the season and as fashion film is one of my favourite things, I wanted to investigate more.

I got in touch with Quentin Jones whose animated short for Test Mag ranked No.5 which captures Holly Fulton’s S/S 11 collection. I first heard about the collaboration through Peter Duffy who composed the soundtrack to match the alphabetized graphics. It’s so much fun and reminds me of the Sesame Street Pinball animation which is brilliantly refreshing against the dark intense genre of fashion film at the moment. I’m always bowled over by intricate stop frame works like this, I can’t imagine how long it must take to put it all together! "

FB: Can you tell us a little bit about your background?

QJ: I graduated last year from St Martins with an MA in illustration, and since have been working with loads lovely brands/people. Patrick Grant gave me my first chance with fashion film this time last year, doing the E.Tautz S/S 2010 film. He was another cool client who let me run with my imagination. From there I got to do films for Showstudio, Another magazine, Penhaligons... - I also am still a model, which helps me meet interesting people.

FB: How did you come to work with Holly and Test........... how did you formulate the concept and treatment.............

QJ: -Jaime Perlman approached me to work on the project- I think she thought mine and Holly's aesthetics would work well together. Going to Holly's studio was the main inspiration- seeing her amazing prints and chatting with her about Joan Collins, and 'bad taste'. She was totally open to how I wanted to interpret her stuff.

FB: What else you have got going on at the moment …………future work?

QJ: Annoyingly I am not allowed to say which film I am working on now. But it is mega exciting, and a DREAM for me as I love the brand.......... which sounds totally made up/ I'm a wanker, right?

FB: Not at all! Its called living the dream……………..hooray!........... really can’t wait to see!
