Weds 16th Jan - "Rumble In The Jumble Pt. 2"

Here are some the lush and generous donations I am amassing for a stall at a fashion and record jumble sale for Oxfam on January 26 at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club.  The Music Circle is organising the event in aid of abused women in the Democratic Republic of Congo in tandem with Oxfam’s Get Together for International Women’s Day on 8 March 2013.

Rumble in the Jumble #2 is the follow-up to Radio 1’s Gemma Cairney and TV presenter Dawn Porter’s event last year for Get Together, which raised an enormous £7k for Oxfam.  The Music Circle in conjunction with Oxfam, was formed in spring 2011, spearheaded by Emily Cooper of music PR company Anorak London. Together with her co-Director Laura Martin, the pair invited a selection of key women across the music industry to join the newly formed Music Circle. The women came together to discuss ideas and ways in which they could collectively use their skills and knowledge to help raise money and awareness for important female related causes that Oxfam supports, namely the severe and ongoing problems in the Congo. The aim of the Music Circle is to collectively raise £50,000 over the course of this and next year, kicking off this November (we have already raised 12k).The money will be used to support women in the DRC; strengthening the work Oxfam already do with communities on protection and working on women's and men's strategies for ensuring that women's concerns are addressed through the project. Targeting 56,000 direct beneficiaries of which half are women, the project aims to support protection committees for a to better ensure women’s right to protection in Eastern DRC.The Music Circle is a subsidiary of Annie Lennox’s The Circle. Set up in 2008 by Annie Lennox and Oxfam, The Circle is a partnership of influential women who work with Oxfam, bringing ideas, skills and resources to the table to help Oxfam fight poverty and inequality. The Circle has raised almost a million pounds for Oxfam to date.
