Monday 21st August: #MarawaLovesKevin

"I Am Blessed" was the theme tune for Marawa & Kevin's first dance at the UK edition of their wedding and that title sums up exactly how I felt to be in attendence.  Their marriage celebrations are a triptych of cities and themes between L.A, Australia and London.  To kick-start the international tour Marawa took the "Blessed" African wedding vibe as inspiration in the Pinterest mood board for the dress code which she circulated with the invites.  The pressure was on!  Luckily my friend Bombe Surprise kitted us out in enough wax cotton prints to cover from head to toe, finished off with Chale "Melanin" socks for my date.  Here is Marawa in her violet look for the night which was swapped for a red lace heart dress later on for the dance and final send off.  Her outfits and the backdrop for the portraits were put together by the deft hands of Rosy Nicholas who Swarovski'ed every rhinestone to Marawas's trailing veil.
Every detail of the night was epic from the venue of the Barbican Conservatory to the soundsystem selections by NTS to the luxury cake hand-made by Lily Vanilli herself.  I was in love with the spectrum lighting in the disco and the room was wall to wall loved-up vibes.  The happy couple's infectious fun lit up the room even more than the rainbow rig and we all had the best night to remember forever and ever after!!

Thursday 13th April: Jenny Lewis "Hackney Studios" - the book

"Hackney Studios" by Jenny Lewis is a record of East London's personal creative havens. A family tree in order of each artist's tip of the next to feature = including my recommendation of Rosy Nicholas who is the cover star! Here I am in 2013 at Lighthouse Studios which is a space I have since given up, like a large percentage of artists in the series.  Here is a soundbite I wrote for Jenny in 2015 when the project was covered by The Guardian:  "Hackney, I lost you': the London creatives priced out of their studios"

"Stepping off the bus into Dalston for the very first time to find Peter Jensen's studio in 2001, I not not only found work experience but a whole a new life experience.  This is where I followed suit to settle in the city.  This is where I planted my roots and recently witnessed the canopy of high-rises bionically shoot up. The shadow of redevelopment has literally been cast over the multicultural magic of Ridley Road.  A Shoreditch stampede flooded in from the city at the weekend, stopped out and not gone home.   The artist’s warehouse studios are now a flicker of PC screensavers between partitioned walls.  It’s the future, its real time, its IRL.  It’s city life.  Its metamorphosis.  Its survival of the fittest.  Its history in the making and taking over.  Too quick.  Too soon. Its out of control. I couldn’t hold on. I’m out of positive spin and been spun out. I’ve gone.  Hackney I LOVE YOU. I lost you."

Above are my snaps from Jenny's book launch where she made an exhibition of the leaves from the book as a tree to show how the evolution evolved into each branch of friendship to follow.

Monday 8th August: Port Eliot Festival 2016 via Rosy Nicholas

Now that Rosy Nicholas book has officially hit the shelves, she has begun spreading the word with a stint at this year's Port Eliot literary festival in the workshop tents.  Alongside designers Stephen Jones, Piers Atkinson, Ed Marler & Molly Goddard, she was on hand to help festival-goers turn their civvies into festival couture.  Here are her snaps from the weekend and her book from which you can also teach yourself how to make her accessories!
