Mon Oct 24th: Amazing Accessories workshop at The British Museum

Conducting workshops takes me to lots of different museums, galleries, schools, events, initiatives and a complete cross section of contenders. This weekend I held two classes for teenagers at The British Museum to illustrate finding inspiration within the Egyptian & Inca collections and craft an accessory. We began by looking at my Sunshowers gold collection which is completely made from cardboard and then went sketching around the displays of artifacts to find an emblem to mimic in the same way. I demonstrated an introduction to the technique and then the girls set about constructing their own wearable sculpture. To complete the mini course, each participant took part in an impromptu photoshoot to collect imagery of their accessory as a memento to upload on facebook. Here are snaps of the great drawings the girls gathered from the research and the rest of the process ............

The next workshop for 13-18 years olds is a day with Tatty Devine making perspex jewellery based on The Day Of The Dead....... find out more here.
