Mon Oct 24th: Grayson Perry: The Tomb Of The Unknown Craftsman at The British Museum

If you are in London and seeking an exhibition to visit - look no further than Grayson Perry's show at The British Museum. The artist has spent the last two years working with the museum to put together a complete showcase of objects from the archive by anonymous craftsmen to compliment his own. It ticks lots of my boxes for a satisfying spectacle of skill - world folk, myth, tradition, ceramics, embroidery, tapestry, kitsch, costume, cross gender........... and custom made motor bike design seen here in Grayson's own bike. All of these separate strands within the selection are being discussed in a whole array of events which I highly recommend you check out here. From film nights, printmaking / embroidery / ceramic workshops, fashion show, fashion shoots, lectures, talks and a sleepover?! To find out about all of them I think getting the physical program is the best ........ which I picked up when I went to a see Paris Is Burning in the cinema room on Friday evening which was brilliant!
There will also be a screening of the BBC documentary which followed Grayson's voyage compiling and curating, behind the scenes in the vaults of the museum. See a trailer to get an insight over at the site here. The other great thing, of course is the gift shop with lots of special styles for the occasion including this lush keyring!!!
