Thursday 20th July: Worldwide Festival 2017

Highlights of this year's Worldwide Music Festival in Sete (South Of France) included Henry Wu's daytime beach set, then Sun Ra Arkestra and Sampha's night time concerts in the amphitheatre.  I was too immersed in the moment,  having too much fun to capture any of it so a second post will cover those live performances.  For now, here are my atmos snaps of the day-to-day antics from the 1st party at the Modern Art Museum to the subsequent dances in the sand.  The final frame is of Shabaka Hutchings from his slot with The Ancestors including drummer Tom Skinner (in the background).  Luckily for us, our flat was on the hill above the outdoor venue so we could hear the rehearsals streaming in live thru our windows opened out to the sea view............ not too bad, not too bad at all!

Tuesday 19th July: Worldwide Festival, Sete, France

Some collated images of the vibe at this year's Worldwide Festival curated and founded by Gilles Peterson in the stunningly beautiful port of Sete in the South of France.   World, Jazz and Electronic Music fills a beach during the day and amphitheatre overlooking the sea by night............. for a whole week, 8 days in total.  Highlights included Photay's first day opening set, Benji B's afternoon sundown dance in the sand and Kamasi Washington's Epic full band complete with his father on oboe.  We absolutely fell in love with everything about this festival and can't wait to return!

Monday 18th July: K-LIVE in Sete, France

Whilst visiting Sete in France for Gilles Peterson's Worldwide music festival, we kept noticing amazing street-art on the buildings.  All became clear when we found a map at the Contemporary Art Museum for an open-air tour of the murals which were from K-LIVE Festival.  Earlier in the Summer, Sete had another festival that combines music with urban art which invited artists to take part and add to the previous year's works.  Amazingly some of these existing early installations across the Port were still perfectly intact with no intervention of graffitti tags which Im sure would have happened in London!
Here are some of the paintings including an outdoor public library in a fridge on the main K-LIVE street gallery .......
Top to bottom:  Romain Froquet, Jan Kalab, Depose, Julien Seth Malland, Christian Guemy, Pedro,  GoddoG, Kashink, Spogo, Bault, Philippe Baudelocque

See more over on the K-LIVE site here.
