This year marks the 3rd fashion film festival in Kathryn Ferguson's series of annual screenings to celebrate female talent in the industry as part of The Birds Eye View Film Festival. Attendance to the event has immeasurably increased, upgrading the venue from the ICA and planting its roots in the immense cinema scale screen at the BFI. It was awesome to see the selection of shorts shown on this format with the whole vision projected to its largest dimension with soundtracks booming from a surround sound system. Kathryn explained that initially it was a battle to put together a program of clips from the slim pickings of work produced by female directors in the genre. However, in just a few seasons the industry has mushroomed and morphed into an extended sisterhood with a plethora of works to choose from. In order to discuss this expansion of the medium, Kathryn brought together a stellar panel of voices and perspectives: Julie Verhoeven, Ruth Hogben, Katerina Jebb, Jamie Pearlman and Francsesca Gavin. The specific strand for 2011 focused on the crossover of the art world and fashion industry within personal projects and campaigns for brands. Each artist, director and critic were able to discuss where the future is heading of the works in the reel and ponder the pros & cons of the formula in a female led workforce. The general consensus is that commissions for moving image will increase with viral marketing ........... and equally that its easier for female creatives to have access to lighter weight cameras in order to freely set out shooting without a cumbersome or expensive crew. So .......... young ladies......... pick up a camera and get rolling........ its a world still establishing its main contenders so get in the grade at the dawn of this exciting era.................

(it was agreed that platforms for sharing films need to be designed so that the beauty of the art direction on the window equates to that of the films embedded.......... ie. A considered and constructed online magazine rather than a blog.......... SO PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGIES for fragrantly disregarding this notion by using a few in this feature!!!! But I thought it would be better to share the schedule for those that weren't there in this instance! The other films included were: Ostwald Helgason SS11’ Sarah Piantadosi 2010, .‘A Piece Apart’, S/S 2010 KT Autela 2010, Vanessa Bruno S/S 2010’' Stephanie di Giusto 2010)
