hockneystylepoolatheHyat"so for the next and final leg of the tour ...
START SPREADING THE NEWS, I'M LEAVING TODAY, I WANT TO BE A PART OF IT ....."
hockneystylepoolatheHyatHanding you over to the capable hands of contributing editor Naomi Attwood who I asked to cover the LCF MA show for me.........
"Despite a touch of fatigue, and the fact it was about minus twelve outside, I had a spring in my step as I made my way to the V&A for the showcase of the LCF (my old college) MA show. The venue for the catwalk presentation – The Raphael Chapel is an immensely gorgeous setting for a show. Fred and I both love a bit of talent spotting at student fashion shows AND because I've just completed my MA at LCF (in journalism); it was extra special for me to be able to support my contemporaries in the design department.
Plus there was a champagne reception beforehand which turned out (surprisingly for a student event) to be packed with wall to wall London celebs like Mika, Jodie Harsh, Paloma Faith and Jo Wood; as well as a who’s who of London Fashion – Joan Burstein of Browns, Harold Tilman of the BFC, Hilary Alexander of the Telegraph and of course, Susie Bubble.
Well, on with the clothes. Mincing along to a remix of The Simpsons theme were the models in Soo Youn Seo’s collection, which very strangely reminded me of someone. Head to toe monochromatic outfits (complete with corresponding colour party wigs). No, I can’t think who that might be. It’s completely gone. They were lovely though.
Another collection that caught the eye was disco-futurist So Ra Kim, with some very structured pieces, like breast-plate like tops and bell-shaped skirts. Even though it was in a neon and metallic colour palette, it succeeded in looking fresh and forward-looking, far from any nu rave neon clichés.
Near the end of the presentation came along the evening’s controversy, from Merve Tuna, a student who had gone a step further than using skins as a material – and compiled jackets that were almost mobile taxidermy parlours. Some people might say that these garments, with hares' heads and pheasants' wings swinging all over the place were the height of tastelessness, while others might notice that by keeping the materials in their original contexts makes more of a statement than an animal skin (real or fake) dyed and trimmed to resemble something else. . . . 'tis a tricky one.
Congratulations one and all. I felt proud of my designer peers, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of their creations on LFW catwalks of the future!"

For anyone that follows me on twitter, you may know of my fascination for all things furry and especially my allegiance to Cat Party. It is one of the funniest blogs I know and makes me smile every day...........just check out the recent post of a cat's sleeping position likened to that of David Bowie walking on the ceiling in Labyrinth. This blog has escalated in its activity since I first signed up and now has a heady roster of high-brow creative contributors.........and a quoter of ridiculously CUTE CATS!
Here is something so fresh, you can almost still smell the lanolin from the sheep that were shorn for these literally "off the hook" sweatshirts. Artist Danny Sangra sent me a sneak preview of his first ever exploration into the world of wearable illustration under the title "AMS" which is a venture in collaboration with knitwear designer Lynnda Needles. Whilst shooting the look book for the collection at the weekend, Danny shot this trailer of the proceedings. So whilst the images of the knits are being compiled we can preview the sexy slouchy styles of "A Minute's Silence" in this sixties style snippet. Personally I would like to bag the lux blue number with yellow triangle elbow pads.............apparently when you purchase one of these investment pieces, it comes wrapped with care in a hand made moth repellent bag alongside an original drawn artwork! b) Who else does Lynnda collaborate with..........?
c) What are the influences for this collection...........the patterns and colours? Does it have a name?
d) How did you discover Corgi and was it fun visiting thier workshop?
e) What is your target market and how/where will you be selling?
f) What was your favourite piece of knitwear from your childhood...........what is your current favourite as an adult?

Occasionally the members of my studio come together on the same job............in this instance Hillman Studio were in charge of Art Direction and Andy Macgregor was in charge of integrating himself into those props as he was the model. Last time I wrote about his sideline career was announcing his role as the face of the new Aquascutum campaign shot by Tim Walker. This is the latest collaboration for Italian label "Henry Cottons" also shot by Walker and you can see his camera bag above in these screengrabs. Ive lifted them off a very nifty stop frame animation made on the shoot which perfectly illustrates the whole set build of the spitfire from start to end. First it takes over the front room of Glenham Hall in Suffolk and secondly it lands outside in a corn field. We haven't yet received the film in the right format to share with you but I'll be uploading it as soon as it homes into view itself!

Here is a phone-pic pinged to me by Hillman Studio setting up Tim Walker's "Pictures" at Galleria Carla Sozzani in Milan which opens today................a continuation from the exhibition the forces fused at The Design Museum in 2008...........
