Thurs 2nd May: Apparel & Ornament - A research project by SPACE and Rhys Coren

Yesterday AGI & SAM launched their first capsule collection for Top Man "The Owls" which features their very own version of a football shirt which I LOVED so much I put it on AnOther LOVES (see sidebar).  In perfect timing there is a new exhibition of highly patterned football shirts opened at their local east end SPACE galleries.   Artist Rhys Coren  has curated the show combining his personal fascination LOVES of acid house era physcadelia and concurrent cosmic late 80's / early 90's British football kits.  When compiling the Boilleroom FC website this topic came up in articles and now culminated in an actual gallery show of original shirts, fanzines and his digital installations based on the crossover culture.........

"At precisely the same time the rule book regarding football kit design was rapidly being torn up. The simple colour block - definitive of the practice since its very earliest days - was suddenly out of favour. In its place came a swarm of complex graphics and garish colours.  It is often suggested that the widespread emergence of Acid House between ‘88 and ‘89 inaugurated an armistice amongst warring football firms. Casual culture, a terrace scene composed of hyper-violent young men dressed in elite European sportswear, had discovered raving...
Apparel & Ornament - the culmination of a research project by SPACE and Rhys Coren - playfully explores the possibility of a relation between these two phenomena. "

Tues 30th April: Boiler Room Make Session w/ T-Shirt Party

Last night Boiler Room teamed up with long term friends T-Shirt Party for their latest Red Stripe Make Session. The one-off space was transformed into an actual T-Shirt Party party with an exhibition of archive designs, as a backdrop to live performances and DJ sets from Portico QuartetFactory Floor, One Little Indian's Stubborn Heart , Brownwood's Anushka and NTS / ALT? 's CKTRL.  The first 200 guests to arrive were gifted a special edition T-Shirt to mark the occasion - which came in this amazing heart shaped box which was hand-made and embossed for them in the UK!  Not satisfied with this treat, the audience had pulled down and pinched every single t-shirt hanging on the wall by the end of the night - which was only to be expected with these coveted classics!!  Head over to the site to see more styles.

If you missed the live stream see Anushka's killer set below with vocalist Victoria Port sparkling in some of my silver pieces.  ^.^

Sunday 28th April: Print Club London & The Zoom Comic at Pick Me Up

Here is a mix of photos from the final day of Pick Me Up graphics fair at Somerset House today.  I was there as part of the Print Club London section where you could pull your own screen print and colour it in with my help on hand to show you how (e.g younger practitioners - see above).
Leading on from yesterday's post, coincidentally my first customer was Ace Rockman who was getting arty with Hattie Stewart's print whilst his brother was running his own stand next door!  12 year old Zoom Rockman was showcasing the latest burger theme issue of his comic zine via a fairground style game to win a prize.  Firing fake burgers with a slingshot, you could win an "Unhappy Meal" gift or just sit at the illustrated refreshments van to get stuck in with his stickers.
