Friday 4th Oct: BoilerRoom FIVES 2013

This year I was not just a spectator at BoilerRoom FIVES but also a player as part of the Ladies team friendly match.  I found out that this was to be a once in a life time performance and never to be repeated.  I LOVE practise which we do weekly but I discovered that I am not naturally intended to play infront of people - let alone an audience of London's discerning music industry.  I got major fear.  Oh dear.  Thankfully Teo saved the day and stepped in as a last minute sub and made the best goaly to have graced a girl's game.  She kept every ball out of the net.  That teamed with two stellar goals from Nell and another from Keturah, our red team won.  As BoilerRoom ladies team were actually divided in two, playing each other there were no real winners or losers - only LOVE.  ONE LOVE.

See last year's event here.

Thank you to Ruth for also sending these colour-filled beautiful shots to show the vibe of her time as spectator of street style at Paris Fashion Week................. including wearing my Spectrum origami broach!

Friday 4th Oct: Paris Fashion Week - Kitty Joseph

Here are Ruth Esme Mitchell's photos from Kitty Joseph's SS/14 showrroom in Paris, as a sneak peak at her gorgeous new garms.  I'm in love with the new graphic print - especially on her signature dip-dyped perspex sunnies!!  You can view the complete collection of printed bikinis, belts, sheers, shift dresses, plastic ponchos, pop-socks, perspex glitter rings and round earrings........ over on her site

Like me, if your'e also a fan of Kitty's ingenious hand painted perspex accessories and transfer print neoprene pieces, check out her latest project with Absolut.  Kitty collaborated with Njena Reddd Fox (Zebra Katz) as Muse for the cobalt blue capsule collection for which the girls made this film and track:

Tues 1st October: PFW - Noel Stewart for Hussein Chalayan

It's that time of year - time to check in with Noel Stewart and his beautiful backstage photography of his even more beautiful, exquisite millinery.  This season his ongoing collaboration with Chalayan brought about giant wave brim bonnets in formed plastic that acted as umbrellas on occasional styles hinged to a handle. GENIUS.  If you have been following the shows on Instagram, this was a real clog in the artery of the stream with everyone present, pinging up pics.
Head over to Noel's Facebook to see more of his first-hand snaps from the sidelines of Holly Fulton and Whistles at London Fashion Week.............. and check out his own SS14 collection at his website, split into three themes entitled "MIST PAVILION", "JEWELLED WATER GARDEN", "PORCELAIN BRUSHSTROKES".

Sunday 29th Sept: Rosy Nicholas at Folk

This week is going to be a "First Thursdays" week in London - the day of the month when galleries open their doors to the public for one night only to view their new shows and swig free beer.  The event extends all the way from Hackney Wick to Vyner street, into Shoreditch's Redchurch Street and Brick Lane's Dray Walk for Folk Clothing.  Their new in-store installation by Rosy Nicholas is her end of summer show for a last chance to draw palms trees and bright coloured buildings before winter properly comes.  My favourite pieces from her last solo show at Jaguar Shoes Collective were the geometric architectural 3D reliefs, so I can't wait to see the new ones!

“Imaginary faraway holidays influenced by my summer in London.
Drawings about all the things i did.
And all the things i should have done.
Incorporating Folk’s current colour palette to roll us into the Autumn”
“Expect a plethora of palms/unidentifiable architecture/a heavy influence from my exotic trip to the model village (recommended)”

Sunday 29th September: Copenhagen "Aagaard Andersen engaged in use" at Denfrie

Whilst Teo and I were in Copenhagen to run, we spent a day walking around the entire city taking in the cultural treats.   As a pair of designers we were in heaven with streets dominated by design shops and a trail of exhibitions to explore.  We accidentally stumbled across this winner which was a gallery with a glass ceiling for the sun to stream in on the shows installed.  The current subject is a retrospective of artist, designer and architect Gunnar Aagaard Andersen (1919-82) renowned for his innovative thinking and experimentation with materials.  The mark-making in his crayon illustrations was gorgeous, his graphic pattern painted canvases were epic, his angular faceted sculptures were right up my street and the dazzle print dance costume designs were incredible!!!  Here are snaps of some of the sketches and a still from a film of the performance which had a set to mimic the optical illusion of the dancers.  Another piece of footage to add to my list of choreography wonders (including the Bauhaus "Triaische Ballet" by Oskar Schlemmer and polkadot world of Michael Clark and Leigh Bowery's "Hail The New Puritan". ) Such a great surprise to discover and bonus to our trip!!
