Mon 17th June: LCM SS14 - Agi & Sam
It's no news to this blog that I'm a signed up and dedicated follower of the fashions from duo Agi & Sam, so this season was exceptionally exciting as they had their first stand alone show. Here are my snaps of some of the new SS14 garms on the rails backstage illustrating the latest print concept lifted from the patterned upholstery fabric of London's public transport seating. This graphic velvety thick pile fabric has been replicated as panels on leather luggage thru to the weave of suiting and shirts. Their instinctive sensitivity and feel for colour took place in the collection as SS warm monochrome looks in burnt sunset oranges, sky blues and azure sea aquas........... tying into the turquoise diffusion they have just launched in collaboration with Topman. This project had a presence at the event via two models sat front row in the owl feather print suits and owl head masks. Apparently the eyes don't move but I'm not so sure as they seemed perfectly fixed on all the action infront of them........ which cracked me up and served as a relief that Agi & Sam haven't lost their refreshing sense of humour whilst the clothes have matured. Its fitting then that Paul Smith has come on board as mentor - an archetypal Brit success who has pioneered an empire founded on a classic look with an identifiable particular tongue-n-cheek covetable charisma. The baton has been passed down and the boys are running for stripes ..........

Sunday 16th June: LCM - Jonathan Saunders presentation
This season Jonathan Saunders installed his dazzle pattern men's tailoring in an presentation at Covent Garden's Film Museum, making use of large screens to project flashing graphics. A slight Hacienda vibe, descending stairs into black and yellow chevron tape, an industrial plastic curtain sectioned off a zone for the model installation. Not only were they there to show the collection off to best effect by just being beautiful, but they were also informed and volunteered insight into the garments! One demonstrated how his beige mac had a polka dot surface texture from bonded circles - the same fabric you can see in the suit above. The pattern in this instance is subtle with similar tone on tone ......... contrasted with bright, dot per inch prints across aertex shirts and light weight summer jackets ........ continuing down the leg of the trousers! LOVE it! Always a winner in LCM schedule for me!

Sunday 16th June: LCM - Alex Mattsson SS14 with Brooke Candy c/o Red Bull Catwalk Studio
London's menswear fashion week (LCM) kicked off last evening with an inherently London style renegade event, challenging conventions of the regular catwalk formula. Designer Alex Mattsson has been working with Redbull Catwalk Studio again this season, teaming up with a musician in their recording studios to make an exclusive track for a live performance at his show.......... and soundtrack his fashion film. This season the muse was Brooke Candy who Mattsson referenced in his twist on the classic camo print by lifting her trademark cannabis leaf tattoo and tessellating it into his very own dazzle pattern. The digital print runs across canvas army style jackets, shirts, shorts and backpacks thru to lightweight silk velvet tees such as this one with his rainbow zion lion emblazoned on the front. Here is a snap of Alex backstage after the show, running me thru the collection and demonstrating the luggage that transforms from a rucksack to a hold-all via a detachable leather harness. Genius! The detail of the construction of the multi popper pocketed gilets and variations of bags is exquisite. Mattsson is stepping it up another level for Spring / Summer 14 - not least for the collection but also the complete presentation package which includes the film shot with Chris Murdoch featuring Brooke in Mattsson womenswear! The track the duo joined forces on is now available for a free download over on the site so skip over to stream and keep the exclusive new Candy tune!
