I'm so glad that Simon Whybray's pink painted installation is still intact and refreshed on the stairwell up the levels of Peckham's multi-story carpark to Bold Tendencies. The outdoor and scenic sculpture show gets even more colourful with this year's major piece "Cloudburst" by Irina Kirchuk. A rainbow of reconfigured, reappropriated refuse on the roof represents the fabric of London’s skyline using waste from the local SE15 area. Her site-specific concept has answered the theme for 2018's art commissions focusing on ecology. I love the combination of something that is visually stunning to draw your attention and then follows up with an urgent message such as this. Not only that, but is brightening up the current grey-sky Summer we are experiencing in the city, so just for that reason it's already winning.
(The other Polyhedra structure here is a tent that houses a film projection piece "Mirror Matter" by Emilija Skarnulyte, and neon sculpture by Arjuna Neuman)
It's that time of year again! "Bold Tendencies" sculpture park on the roof of the multi-story car park in Peckham has opened its doors for this years' programme of exhibitions, concerts and events. Here is the new major work by Ewa Axelrad which was framed by a double rainbow when we arrived for the first night opening on Friday. No visit would be complete without a stop at Franks Cafe for a scenic supper overlooking London's skyline from the Southern perspective. The padron peppers are delish! (And the staircase has been left pink from 2016's comission by Whybray.)
My annual report from Bold Tendencies open-air sculpture park on Peckham's NCP, which is in its 9th year! Richard Wentworth's rooftop silver swirls have been kept from last year's commission and given a fresh reflective coat of Johnstone's metallic paint. The other painted installation is this pink stairwell by Simon Whybray, entitled "hi boo i love you" which goes up every single floor of the complex. From the lifts on the ground floor all the way up covering each hand-rail, pipe, fixture and fitting, coating the building in this bubble-gum pink. COSMIC!
Head over to the site to look up the jam-packed schedule of activities of music, poetry, film ......... here.

It's that time of year again - long Summer's evenings to enjoy the South panoramic view of the city from the top of Bold Tendencies sculpture show. For 2015 that top-most space has been turned over to one artist Richard Wentworth who has painted a swirling silver chrome line across the entire car park roof. Down the ramp on the floor below is this installation of colourful pigment cones by Metahaven, curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini. There's a secondary space for feasting with the new Ali Baba Snack Bar to back up the popular patronage of Franks Cafe. In the hay-bail auditorium is a residency from local record shop YAM who are firing up a radio station to broadcast live as a soft launch for their new frequency. The three day schedule of selectors programmed by DJ Gilla of First Word Records includes Andrew Ashong, Rhythm Section, Mr.Thing, Charlie Dark, Marshmello & One Handed Music (Mo Kolors, Alex Chase, Paul White) snapped here. Tune into the new venture's stream here. Keep following the official launch announcement at their Facebook.
Check the Bold Tendencies site for details on all aspects of the show till 27th September, including the Derek Jarman Garden, Roof Top Yoga, Copeland Book Market and Hot Roof Gigs by Hannah T-W.
Whilst you are in Peckham pop into the YAM record shop to pick up a copy of CKTRL's new EP "Forest" and visit Bosse & Baum Gallery to hear Coby Sey's soundtrack for the show "Congregation".
