Thurs Oct 20th: Swatch archive at Phillips de Pury "The Blum Collection"

Phillips de Pury

One of the most impressive complete collections of Swatch watches is touring a few cities before it is ultimately divided up at auction in Hong Kong next month. It's an incredible accumulation of more than 4,350 pieces comprising of a large number of original prototypes, hybrids and production variations never actually offered for sale. Many of the rare prototypes date from the development period just before the commercial release of the first Swatch watches in the early 1980s. I was really excited to see the comprehensive collection of Keith Haring designs which was poignant having spotted a Haring print sweater on the way to the gallery - his work is forever omnipresent in his absence. Another highlight was this Andrew Logan Jelly Fish style from 1985 which perfectly demonstrates the brand's awareness for collaborating with specialised and unique artists. Ive also photographed my obligatory fave rainbow and spectrum inspired designs from the catalog currently on show in London at Phillips de Pury. The showcase is on display until 25th October before being flown to Shanghai for the final leg of the tour, ending up in Hong Kong to go on sale on November 24th. If you are a Swatch enthusiast like myself, this is an unmissable opportunity to see so many designs all together under one roof ......... unless you are one of the few world collectors!

Exactly one month after my presentation and I'm finally free from the shackles of my studio working on the S/S collection, here is an insight into the insanity via a mix of imagery from the cabin-fever time ........ including skypes to Kim, prototypes, toiles, spraying speakers and a rare venture outside to meet with Patrick to plan the music.......

Tue 18th Oct: No Days Off "Répondez "

I'm on a constant recruit to fill my studio block with friends in an attempt to turn it into a commune of like-minded creative crusadors with the most recent resident to take root - design house "No Days Off". When I visited on Friday they showed me their latest print Répondez which has been produced on the team's own exclusive ‘Hatred’ paper stock made by Two Rivers Paper in Somerset. The recycled 300gsm stock was formed out of the pulp from the unused stationery accumulated at their old studio and gathered in the move. It’s off-white with a variant fleck in – possibly pieces of previous business cards in the mix. Here are photos from the print process by James at Tru Forme during the run of creating the edition of 25. The other images are my studio snaps of their enviably organised and beautiful surroundings ......... including an impressive vinyl collection and odd xylophone paper weights ........

You can buy one of the prints at the No Days Off online shop: http://www.nodaysoff.com

Mon Oct 18th: Look Book behind the scenes

We shot the complete collection this weekend so that pieces which weren't shown in the presentation at LFW finally have their chance to shine. Here are two of the cane headpieces that had to sit on the sideline at Somerset House and now gained the name "Seahorse" by Martina Luisetti. Martina took these beauty shots whilst working on the makeup for the story being photographed by Elisha Smith-Leverock. I love documenting on set atmosphere like this and Martina has captured lots of images which Kim has edited and compiled over on her blog ........ head over to read her summary of sharing a studio with me and overseeing the season ........

Sun 16th Oct: Art against Knives FYI Dalston Art trail exhibition

Art against knives was created three years ago to bring about positive action from a negative tragedy when Oliver Hemsley was stabbed in an unprovoked attack. In a reactionary U turn of suffering victimisation, Oliver and Katy Dawe decided to act on the experience by helping the youth of East London to raise awareness and hopefully prevent future similar attacks. Art against Knives aim is to question understanding of the true causes of violent knife crime, at a time of highlighted hostility within Hackney surrounding the recent riots.

AKK have received substantial support to activate their scheme which has been able to offer open opportunities and events for teenagers to engage in the creative industry. The most recent project titled "FYI" (Focused Young Individuals) is a photo exhibition from a collective of over 30 young artists selected on the onus of their passions and potential. With guidance from both professional practitioners and social enterprises, the images have been shot, produced and promoted by each different member. The range of work and medium spans film, photography, editing, volunteering, social issues and music. Each portrait is displayed in a site-specific installation across venues dotted down Kingsland Road shown alongside text detailing the subject’s story. With an initial private view to launch "FYI" at 1st Thursdays on Vyner Street, the local community have now been invited to explore Dalston to find each image curated in a trail with a specially drawn map illustrated by one of the group.

The images will be displayed until 23rd October so keep your eyes wobbling to see them at the train station, theatre, cinema etc. ......... and pick up a map to make sure your don't miss one. With a tag line "F.Y.I We're all for hire" - its one to investigate if you are based in the area and looking to take on a budding new assistant!
