Tuesday 12th June: "Colour Transfer" by Liz West

Chasing rainbows on my Canyon Roadlite and finding “Colour Transfer” by Liz West for British Land at Paddington Basin.  Thanks to Rhian Mclaren for the location inspiration!  This is such a cosmic discovery to come across whilst winding your way along the canal tow path.  Infact, probably the best new piece of public art in London right now!  It nestles perfectly in this hidden pocket of a Brutalist style concrete bridge.  The spectrum of metallic angular facets creates an optical illusion as you pass.  It's like the inside of a kaleidoscope for all to see and enjoy.  There are even two adjacent public ping pong tables for the best backdrop to a game of alfresco table tennis this Summer! 

I have also included here snaps of the Sir Peter Blake pattern painted barge at Paddington to make sure that you see both when you visit.

Monday 18th December: My headpiece for Donna Wilson's magazine "Make Your Own"

Earlier in the year Donna Wilson asked me to invent a step-by-step guide to a headpiece for her magazine "Make Your Own".  The 2nd issue is out this week for Christmas packed with projects, interviews and inspiration from lots of different artists and designers working in different mediums.    Here are the images from my spread and a sneak peak of a page from the final edition in print.  You'll have to buy the actual physical copy to get your hands on my breakdown of how to create this cosmic iridescent crown!

Wednesday 1st Nov: SUPERFLEX'S ONE TWO THREE SWING!

Danish artist's collective Superflex have filled the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern with swings made of seats for 3 people.  Kitty, Fatima and I went down to have a go and of course see the spectrum flooring which covers the great expanse of the the old power station.  It's not evident that the carpet has any seams so it appears all one piece.  Incredible!  Turns out that it perfectly matches our current hair colours with pink and violet............... serendipity...........

Saturday 28th October: Rainbow Cake

Whilst in San Francisco I made a spectrum cake to look like the Apple Mac "spinning wheel of doom" icon with a rainbow of layers in the same colours as their logo.  It took an evening of mixing and individually baking each sponge and then a morning of mixing and spreading icing to build the tower block!  Here are all the stages and the final assembly with icing on the whole exterior and sugar crystals to make the wheel pattern.

My blog has just hit it's 10th birthday so I'll dedicate this entry to such an auspicious anniversary!

Find the recipe I followed for quantities and method here.................. albeit without the pink layer because there's no pink in the Apple logo.  Thank God because I don't think it could have got any higher!

Thursday 26th May: Louisiana, Modern Art Museum, Copenhagen: Part 2

The best thing about the whole Louisiana museum for me was this cosmic installation that is part of the current "Eye Attack" Op-Art show.  Carlos Cruz-Diez has covered a glass atrium in colour gels to create a new version of his "Chromosaturation" (1965) that plays with your perception of spectrum in light.  You could walk straight thru and only notice the red, green and blue sections but if you wait a while for your eyes to adjust, then an entire rainbow of hues is visible on the floor.  I cant understand how it works but I saw it with my own eyes and any house of my own is just going to be a massive disappointment after witnessing this.  The construction appears misleadingly simple but the outcome is miraculous.   I feel so lucky that I found the museum for the first time to catch this temporary piece.

Tuesday 19th April: 'Auroratone' by Rose Pilkington at DreamBagsJaguarShoes

 

Rose Pilkington has used the positive vibrations from bright colours for her site-specific spectrum installation at Jaguar Shoes to subconsciously stimulate the visitors to the bar.  The abstract swirling molten pattern landscapes are continued on A3 risograph prints to complement the project.   This means the healing properties generated in her interior design can be transplanted to your own habitat to inspire your creative senses at home.  Another cosmic rainbow to add to your collection if you are a collector of multi-colour art-works like me!  I particularly love the gradient pastel-painted benches!

Friday 1st April: Rainbow Birthday Cake

From one epic culinary tale to another - this immense rainbow cake by Lena.  It was delivered by stealth and hidden in my front garden by the secret squirrel a.k.a "NiceNutmegs".  The surprise of finding it was only the first wonder.  I cannot work out how she has made this.  Each cylinder is absolutely perfectly formed.  Each moist spectrum layer is sandwiched together with lemon icing to form the upright pillar.  All together, the letter candles spell out "HAPPY BIRTHDAY".  Even the package and wrapping is a work-of-art in itself with iridescent foil and multicolour ribbon.  It must have taken so long to devise and prepare, I feel incredibly honoured.  Lena is a LEGEND.

Thursday 15th Oct: Andrew Logan's 70th Birthday Masked Ball

Happy Birthday Andrew Logan who celebrated his 70th with a Masked Ball party in a grand church, now converted into 291 Gallery.  The artist (who like me) wears top-to-toe one colour, invited his guests to come dressed in their favourite colour.  He spent the night sneaking off to slip out of one hue into another to complete the whole spectrum of looks before the stroke of midnight when he appeared as a complete rainbow.  LEGEND.  

Here he is cutting his cake, still wearing his own mosaic mirror mask.  And here I am in my neon yellow frog guise with Kit Miles and Kitty Joseph.
